Buddha Dhamma shines in Jersey

Saturday, 28th July 2018

On 7 July 2018, Ajahn Sujan along with Ajahn Wichian and two members of Varapunya Meditation Centre traveled to Jersey channel Island building bridges between centre in Aberdeen and people in Jersey. It was a fruitful visit and people warmly welcomed us all and given first class hospitality during our stay.

Our five days were fully booked for blessing chanting and dhamma discussions in different place and every evening there were a chanting, meditation and dhamma discussion.

According to Ooi and Steve, a host, who invited us to the Island, said that they have been inviting monks every year to the island for five years. Some year monks were invited to visit island two to three times a year, who would visit restaurants and houses to perform rites and rituals for blessing to all Thai people, over a thousand, who are living in there.

On our visit to the island priority was to bring people together learning and practicing Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. As a result, we advertised chanting and meditation sessions with monks every night for two hours but always exceeds up to three hours. On the first day, there were only four people turn up but gradually increased up to 15/20 on the last day. It was a huge success. Having seen such interest and everyone’s intention to have a Buddhist centre in Jersey, Ajahn Sujan formed with everyone’s noble intention a Buddhist group under a name of ‘Buddhametta Mindfulness Meditation Centre’. Aims and objectives of the group is to set a forum of people who have same interests to have a Buddhist centre in Jersey and possibly establish a proper Buddhist temple with a permanent Buddhist monk resident.

It’s just a start and hopefully we will be able to support and establish a centre in Jersey channel island in near future to facilitate all Thai people who are living in there as well as those who are interest in Buddhist practices.

On behalf of the centre and a visiting group we would like to express our appreciation and big thanks for having us and given us such a grandeur hospitality. We hope to work together in future.
